Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain Veneers are an ultra-thin, porcelain shell that is designed to cover the surface of a tooth. These veneers can be bonded to the front surface of teeth in order to change their color, shape, size, or length. The indications for veneers are quite specific.

You may be a candidate for veneers if:

  • Your teeth are too small
  • Your teeth are discolored
  • The surface of the original tooth is affected by disease (typically a disease other than decay)
    • This includes congenital and/or developmental defects

Ideally, despite some imperfections of the tooth, the overall health of the tooth is still good. There should not be existing restorations in or around the tooth, nor should the tooth have a history of root canals.

Do they look like natural teeth?

They can look like natural teeth, which is the idea behind using porcelain for veneers. While there are other materials from which veneers can be made from, porcelain is superior when it comes to quality, tooth-like veneer material. A custom-fabricated porcelain veneer can dramatically improve the aesthetics of our patient’s teeth; giving them a strong, natural smile that they can wear proudly and confidentially.

Are veneers better than crowns?

They are not better, they are just different. The difference comes from the indications. Crowns are indicated for patients with damaged enamel in at least 50% of its surface (sides/back/front). The only way to save the tooth is to recreate the outer layer with ceramic porcelain. On the other hand, veneers are indicated if the tooth is healthy and does not have existing restorations. Here, we try to improve the way the tooth looks by changing its shape, size, length, dimension, texture, and color. All of these things can be changed using veneers, without replacing the entire tooth.

We consider porcelain veneers to be one of the ultimate tools of cosmetic dentistry. Porcelain veneers can dramatically improve the position, size, color and shape of your teeth while maintaining a natural sheen and translucency. They can also close gaps and conceal small imperfections in the alignment of your teeth, making them look straighter, whiter and brighter!

Porcelain is also harder than tooth enamel, so it resists wear and staining. In fact, veneers do not discolor with age like natural teeth. All veneers are custom-fabricated and can provide permanent aesthetic results in as little as two appointments. Major Dental Clinics specialists are experts in the placement, design, and shade selection of veneers; creating results that can significantly transform and enhance your smile!
